While her countrymen were struggling to win a medal in China, six days of effort and concentration brought Israel's top junior female golfer Laetitia Beck to the fore in Junior Girls Golf in the United Kingdom. The 16-year-old Caesarea ladies champion, came third in the British Girls Open Golf Championship out of a field of 140 female golfers under the age of 18 from 17 countries. Beck spent six days battling the wind and rain at Monifeith Golf Club in the North East of Scotland on August 15 on her way to winning the bronze medal. On day 1 she carded the lowest score of 68 strokes, which has also been the best recorded score for two days of stroke play. The last four days were match play - two rounds per day and it was only on day 4 that the sun crept out from between the heavy grey clouds to help dry out part of the course and make conditions easier. Laetitia reached the semifinals and lost to number 1 seed, Laura Gonzalez Escalon of Belgium.
