Soccer: Big Apple Pizza knocked out by improving UKI
By JERUSALEM POST STAFF
U.K.I set up a huge Moshiko Soccer League final against the mighty Cafe Rimon, defeating Big Apple Pizza 4-3 last weekend.
In a highly entertaining encounter U.K.I took an early lead through a sublime Jona Bondi finish. Big Apple, led by the magnificent Avi Gutfriund, responded swiftly, and were rewarded with league top scorer Israel Gurt scoring 2. Rafi Goldberg eventually levelled for U.K.I from long range. Big Apple suffered a double blow as Gurt had to be treated on the sidelines and the irreplaceable Yanki Wolf limped off. U.K.I took advantage and player of the season David Cantor gave U.K.I the lead with a thunderous strike.
Bondi scored again in the second half and while Gurt completed his hat-trick it was too little too late as U.K.I were on their way to Saturday's final.
Davy Liser produced and outstanding performance in the Cafe Rimon goal as they defeated JLE 3-1 in the other semi-final. Matt Sinclair and the impressive David Leiwy came close for JLE but it was Rimon who opened the scoring through a clever Shui Mervis free kick.
Ronny Perel scored twice leaving the game out of reach for JLE.
