A day after winning her second game against a top-10 player, Israeli tennis star Shahar Pe'er got a harsh reminder that she still has quite a way to go before reaching top-10 level of play.
Pe'er was trounced by former world #1 and current #5 Kim Clijsters 6:2, 6:1 in the quarterfinals of the Medibank International Tennis Tournament in Sydney.
Despite the loss, Pe'er is expected to move one spot up in the ranking to her personal best 17th in the world.
On Tuesday, Pe'er defeated world's ninth best player Patty Schnyder from Switzerland in the second round 7:6. 6:2.
The victory marked Pe'er's second win against a top-10 player, previously beating Elena Dementieva in last year's French Open in Paris.
Pe'er, whose #18 ranking earlier this week was the highest in her career, was down 4-1 in the first set but again proved she was a great comeback player, tying the score at 4-4 and winning the set with a 7:3 tiebreak victory.
After tying the score at two games apiece in the second set, Pe'er stepped up her game to easily wrap up the match 6:2.
