Eighty UK MPs and peers urged the new prime minister to impose a full arms embargo, sanction Israel and ban trade linked to Israeli settlements.

Ed Miliband said Britain was a sanctuary to his parents after they escaped the Nazis during World War II, citing his support for Israel while recognizing the "suffering of the people of Gaza."

The decision, which follows a similar policy established by Burnham's predecessor, Keir Starmer, qualifies the strikes as "defensive" rather than an active war, Bloomberg reported.

The National March for Palestine was organized by the Palestine Coalition ahead of Burnham's entrance to Downing Street on Monday.

Burnham pledged to use his premiership as a "circuit-breaker for Britain," arguing that a new model was needed to rebuild the country, which has been in political turmoil since 2016.

Burnham appears likely to take a more openly critical line on Israel’s conduct in Gaza than Keir Starmer initially did, but his record points to a shift in tone and pressure, not a policy upheaval.

The Greater Manchester mayor, known as the "King of the North," will replace Keir Starmer as Britain's prime minister after winning the Labour leadership.

“If settlements are illegal, why have we not made an outright ban on trade? What exactly is it that we’re waiting for?” said Abtisam Mohamed, a Labour politician.

Tehran's Foreign Ministry said the IRGC was an official part of Iran's armed forces and accused Britain of violating international law by targeting a state institution.
