Immigration authorities say they detained her in 2025 for overstaying her expired student visa, though her attorney said she was in the process of securing legal residence.

Ruben Ray Martinez was shot by a Homeland Security Investigations Agent, Jack C. Stevens, on March 15, 2025. According to another agent, Martinez had first struck him with his car.

All 39 defendants are charged with conspiracy against the right of religious worship and violating a law that forbids obstructing access to houses of worship.

The Trump administration, according to Maryland's attorney general and government, purchased the property without conducting an environmental review or receiving public input.

Under US law, refugees must apply for lawful permanent resident status within a year of their arrival in the country.

"We need more voices strongly condemning this taxpayer-funded antisemitism from the NYC Mayor’s office," US Representative Elise Stefanik said on X/Twitter.

Over 4,000 illegal immigrants were apprehended by the DHS since the operation began in November 2025.

The legislation would have provided $64.4 billion through September 30 to cover immigration enforcement and other functions handled by DHS, including airport security and disaster response.

Synagogues must decide whether to comply with ICE's terms tied to DHS security grants or uphold their values by refusing to cooperate with enforcement actions.

About 6,000 Italian security units are stationed to secure the event.
