In his speech, Spielberg lamented polling showing high rates of antisemitism on college campuses. He also condemned other forms of hate, including anti-Arab, anti-Muslim and anti-Sikh discrimination.
The increased transparency comes as students’ complaints of antisemitism and Islamophobia on campuses surrounding the war continue to ramp up.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations advocacy group says it received 3,578 complaints during the last three months of 2023.
Groups identified as extremist, following a "robust" assessment over the next few weeks, will not be subject to any action under criminal laws and will still be permitted to hold demonstrations.
