The firefighters noticed an elderly man trapped in his vehicle after heavy rains flooded the road and used a flotation vest to aid in the extraction.

The flames, which engulfed cars parked at a gas station near the town’s entrance, were extinguished by fire crews early Wednesday, and no injuries were reported.

According to the Israel Police, the man was last seen attempting to extricate a vehicle stuck in water when he slipped in and was swept away by the current.

"Firefighters from the Southern District are currently operating at the scene, conducting searches and working to rescue those trapped under challenging terrain conditions," the authority said.

Jerusalem apartment destroyed by fire during Shabbat, seven injured

One person was moderately injured in the fire, with the rest being reported as lightly injured. All were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Emergency services halt search for five missing people near Beit Zayit Dam

The IDF received over 100 reports about the vehicle, which was spotted driving through floodwaters near the dam. 

Emergency service volunteers, together with Jerusalem District Police and other forces, are searching for five people last seen in a Jeep driving near Beit Zayit Dam.

Among those evacuated were a 34-year-old woman and two children around three years old in moderate condition. Eight others were reported in mild condition.
