Hundreds of people have been killed in the last year by criminal gangs carrying out robberies and kidnappings in northwest Nigeria.

The militants entered Monguno in Borno state posing as a convoy of soldiers on Tuesday evening, the sources said. They then attacked troops inside the town, destroying at least 750 homes.

Out of the 1,900 people who presented their candidacy, twelve contestants from all over the country were selected through an online quiz to attend the final stage.
The raid occurred on October 12 in Sabot Gar, in the Katsina state. Police issued a statement on Monday and said they were working to reunite the victims with their families.
The military did not respond to requests for more details about its strategy or the impact it will have on the region.
