Defense Minister Israel Katz called the pardon necessary as Israel faces a "more complex security reality than ever before."

The prime minister's pardon contained a not-so-veiled offer: Let me have a pardon and I will turn down the pressure on the legal establishment.

The decisions were made in cooperation with the Justice Ministry.

The White House had said repeatedly that Biden would not pardon or commute the sentences of his son.
