The sentence ends Hong Kong's highest-profile national security trial and a legal sagathat has spanned nearly five years.

The breakthrough came less than a month after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney made a four-day visit to China.

The prosecution has appealed the sentence handed to Eduard Kachura, arguing that his actions in the death of Lital Melnick should be classified as reckless killing, not negligent homicide.

The court cleared Kim, the wife of ex-President Yoon Suk Yeol, who was ousted from office last year, of charges of stock price manipulation and violating the Political Funds Act.

The prosecution requested that he be remanded in custody until the conclusion of the legal proceedings, citing a high level of danger to the public.

The two were convicted of four counts of attempted murder in the context of a terrorist act and related offenses, following a combined attack involving a car ramming and an attempted shooting.

Maslouhi was convicted in 1994 of offenses stemming from a plot to kidnap and rob Attar, who was shot during the incident, critically wounded, and later died of his injuries.

"Given this scenario of injustice, I have decided to indict Flávio Bolsonaro as a pre-candidate to the Presidency," former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro said in an official letter.

The nanny was quoted as telling police that she "never should have worked for a Jewish woman" while in custody.

In a unanimous ruling, the court dismissed the defendant’s claim that the circumstances of the offense were comparatively minor and did not justify the punishment imposed.
