Police used crowd dispersal measures after protesters blocked roads near Jerusalem’s Bar Ilan Street and refused orders to leave.

The protests follow an N12 News report that haredi protests have cumulatively caused over NIS 400 million in damage to the Jerusalem light rail's unfinished Green Line.

"The military has been requested to provide support to the police, but at the moment they are on standby," Sri Lankan Army Spokesman Brigadier Waruna Gamage told Reuters.

"Traffic at the junction has reopened and is operating as normal," the police said.

"Dozens of rioters began blocking traffic routes and public buses with their bodies, significantly disrupting the routine of life in the area and putting road users at risk," the police said.

"They are expressing their happiness, a little bit violently, but it is what it is," said Youssef Sabbr, a 49-year-old Canadian of Moroccan descent.

The Shin Bet is investigating haredi anti-conscription protests after multiple disruptive incidents, amid concerns that future demonstrations could threaten government sites or officials.

One resident of the area told BBC News that "Masked men were bashing down doors," while the Belfast Telegraph reported that Molotov cocktails had been thrown at police officers.
