To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the capital's reunification, residents and nonresidents alike will be treated to three days of free events and no-charge admission to cultural and tourist destinations like the Biblical Zoo.
On Wednesday and Thursday evenings, the downtown area will be the focus of the fun. Bring the kids to the Ben Yehuda promenade, where two kids' stages - one for TV favorites, another for storytelling - will be set up, and street theater, folklore ensembles and kids' workshops will fill up the rest of the space (5 to 10 p.m.).
Jazz lovers should make sure they stroll through newly renovated Hillel Street, where outdoor performances will be held from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Over on the nearby Ben Shetach promenade, "authentic Jewish singing" is promised.
Well-known personalities like humorist/journalist Jackie Levi will be guiding free tours through the more picturesque city neighborhoods, like Nachlaot or Rehavia on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Call 1-800-200-183 to register.
Call that same number to register for free entrance (spaces limited) Tuesday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. to the Jerusalem Time Elevator, the Tower of David Museum, the Museum of Italian Jewish Art, the Science Museum, the Herzl Museum and the Israel Museum. You'll be asked for i.d. numbers on this automatic voice operated message system, so don't try registering extended family and friends.
