In what used to be the USSR, the authorities would have loved to have thrown Vladimir Wissotzky into a gulag and thrown away the key - but they didn't dare. The gravel-voiced dissident poet-singer was too popular and too beloved. He died 25 years ago and to commemorate the event "Wissotzky Ain't Just Tea!" will play at the Mandel Center in Jaffa (9/2, 18/2) and at Tzavta Tel Aviv (4/3).
The multimedia event celebrates Wissotzky, Pushkin and other Russian greats in music, song, dance, video and the plastic arts. The director is Boaz Piper and participating artists include Limor Shapira, Raffi Perski and Michael Mashkowtzin.
