Concert Review

Dudu Fisher in Concert, Jerusalem Theater, Henry Crown Auditorum, September 28.

On Hoshana Raba, Dudu Fisher and new rising star Colin Shachat performed at the Jerusalem Theater. The Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra was under the baton of Dudi Sebba.
What a wonderful evening of oratorio at its best.
Fisher has always been one of my favorite singers, and I remember him from around 30 years ago when he was the cantor in the Berea shul in Johannesburg.
Like a good whiskey, he just gets better with the years.
He is so versatile, he reminds me of the footballer Ronaldo. He scores from every angle, even the seemingly impossible. Fisher’s show included cantorial music, Elvis songs and selections from Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables, as well as some some Yiddish opera. He gave the crowd just what they wanted – an amazing evening.
For those who don’t know who Colin Shachat is, he is the new kid on the block in Israel. His solo rendition of “Granada” was nothing short of magnificent. Perhaps is he is still a little shy before local audiences, but his duets with Fisher were excellent. The two of them complement each other perfectly.
The proceeds of the evening went to the Leket organization, which provides thousands of meals daily to needy people in Israel.
