As Israel celebrates 60 years of independence, a movement is being organized to bring Diaspora Jews together in harmony. Galia Albin, an Israel-born businesswoman and philanthropist, is donating her time and resources to organize The HaTikva Project, which intends to bring world Jewry together to sing Israel's national anthem in unison. The idea is aimed at strengthening the relationship between Diaspora Jewry and Israel.
"HaTikva," Albin says, "is the song of the Jewish people. It was sung for many years before the State of Israel was established. It is the very existence of the State of Israel that safeguards Jews all over the world. Conversely, it is world Jewry that ensures Israel's continued existence."
World Jewry numbers at approximately 13.5 million. Bringing this population together in song should be quite a feat. The HaTikva Project will enjoy coverage via a special broadcast by Reshet on Israel's Channel 2 and will be launched on Israel's 60th Independence Day.
