Swedish-Argentinean singer/songwriter Jose Gonzalez will be making his Israeli debut on October 11 at the Barby Club. The 30-year-old indie folk favorite grew up in Gothenburg, Sweden playing in hardcore punk bands. He released his first low-key acoustic solo album in 2003 while studying for a PhD in biochemistry at the University of Gothenburg. Eschewing science for a music career, Gonzalez released his acclaimed followup In Our Nature last year and has attracted a solid following for his classical guitar and gentle vocals. In addition to his own material, Gonzalez is known for his eclectic acoustic renditions of songs like "Love Will Tear Us Apart" by Joy Division, "Born in the USA" and "The Ghost of Tom Joad" by Bruce Springsteen, "Hand on Your Heart" by Kylie Minogue and "Smalltown Boy" by Bronski Beat. His songs have been featured in popular American TV shows like The OC, Scrubs and One Tree Hill.
