Following last year's well-attended and well-received Grateful Dead tribute concerts in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, The Elevators are entering the time warp again to present one of the classic Dead albums - 1975's Blues for Allah - in its entirety.
According to band leader Aryeh Naftali, the decision to focus on just one album this year had several factors. "I didn't want to do just another" tribute concert; it's my favorite Dead album and I think their best recorded and most creative record. And I felt that in these times of political confusion and craziness, the theme is appropriate," he said, referring to the title song, which speaks of reconciliation between Jews and Arabs.
The band, featuring Rob Steiner, Tom Curran, Mike Roth, Lazer Lloyd Blumen and special guest Nachman Solomon from HaMakor, will also play the album's more accessible tunes such as "Help on the Way" and "Franklin's Tower" on September 4 at the Yellow Submarine in Jerusalem. Doors open at 9:30 p.m.
