16 people killed in eastern China factory blast

An official and state media say an explosion at a factory in eastern China killed 16 people and injured dozens more. The official from the State Administration of Work Safety said 16 people died in the explosion that occurred at 3 a.m. local time Sunday (1900GMT Saturday) in Fengyang, a county in Anhui province. Xinhua News Agency and state broadcaster CCTV said 44 people were injured. The official said the factory produces quartz sand. Xinhua said most of those killed were factory workers but local residents were among the injured.
