Some 20,000 students were expected to surround Rahat in a "human chain" on Sunday in protest against the rising violence in the Negev city, Israel Radio reported.

Six people have been murdered in Rahat this year and mass brawls between rival clans are an almost weekly occurrence.

According to the Israel Radio report, IDF weapons are used in most of the incidents.
