22-year-old woman stabbed in Ramle, motives unclear

A 22-year-old woman was stabbed in the back with a screwdriver in Ramle on Sunday, by a stranger who attacked her on the street.

Police said that they haven’t determined the motive for the crime but that it doesn’t appear that the attack was nationalist.

Paramedics said Sunday that when they arrived on the scene on Herzl Street in Ramle they found the woman sitting on the sidewalk conscious, but having trouble breathing. She was taken for treatment at Assaf HaRofeh hospital in moderate condition.

The suspect in the attack was shot by police not far from the scene of the crime, and taken to Assaf HaRofeh in moderate to serious condition. Police said that officers found the man on a street near the scene of the crime and that when they told him to stop he charged them with the screwdriver, at which point they said they shot him in the legs.
