Abbas: I submitted UN application for Palestinian statehood

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas announced during his speech to the United Nations General Assmebly on Friday that prior to his address, he submitted an application to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon requesting full membership for a Palestinian state based on "pre-1967 lines and with Jerusalem as its capital."

Abbas waved the letter to uproarious applause from the UN assembly, saying "I hold before you the application."
