African Union names team to help ease Libya crisis

ADDIS ABABA - The African Union (AU) has set up a panel of five heads of state to travel to Libya shortly to help ease the hostilities in the north African country, the AU's Peace and Security Council (PSC) said on Friday.
"The current situation requires urgent African action in order to facilitate immediate cessation of hostilities," Ramtane Lamamra, Commissioner of the PSC, told a news conference.
Lamara said the council had rejected any form of foreign military intervention in Libya, where protesters demanding an end to the 41-year rule of Muammar Gaddafi have taken control of parts of the east amid increasingly destructive fighting against government forces.
