Police on Sunday arrested a 21-year-old resident of the Galilee village of Kaucab on suspicion that he raped a 14-year-old girl from Haifa who he met on an online social networking site. On Monday, the Haifa Magistrate's court extended the suspect's remand until Friday. Police believe the man lured the girl into meeting him by telling her he was "Daniel", a 19-year-old soldier from the Krayot suburb of Haifa. The two reportedly met on a few occasions in the Haifa area, and on one of those instances, police suspect the man raped the girl in his car after she refused his physical advances. Police say that after the alleged sexual assault occurred, the girl reported the assault to police and shortly thereafter, the suspect sent the girl a threatening SMS message, in which he demanded that they meet again. When the man showed up at the prearranged rendezvous point, police arrested him and a friend who accompanied him. Police said that the girl was convinced that the suspect was a 19-year-old soldier until he was arrested and his real identity was discovered.
