Labor MK Binymain Ben-Eliezer expressed regret Saturday on hearing the news that deposed Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak was sentenced to life in prison for ordering the killing of protesters during the uprising that swept him from power last year.

"I feel a deep personal regret at the decision of the Egyptian court," he said. "Mubarak is a patriotic Egyptian who led his people for 30 years and was concerned about the political status in Egypt and its economy."
