Berlin Holocaust memorial suffering from cracks

BERLIN — Officials at Berlin's Holocaust memorial say most of its 2,711 concrete slabs are suffering from cracks only five years after it opened.
Memorial foundation director Uwe Neumaerker said Wednesday experts have found no remedy yet for the damage in at least two-thirds of the slabs.
German daily Bild reported that, following a hard winter, at least 2,200 slabs in the memorial near Berlin's Brandenburg Gate are damaged.
Neumaerker said there was no danger to visitors and that he did not believe the damage was beyond repair. He added that the number was "speculation" and that he hadn't yet sent out experts for a detailed check on the slabs.
