British top general: 'The West cannot beat al-Qaida'

The new head of Britain's armed forces, Gen. Sir David Richards, said al-Qaida cannot be beaten, and compared the Islamic terror organization to Nazi Germany in a Sunday interview with The Telegraph.
Defeating Muslim militants was "unnecessary and would never be achieved," Richards told the paper.
He added that, in the fight against Qaida, the best weapon is "upstream prevention...education and democracy."
