Egypt troops arrest 2 armed Palestinians in Sinai

EL-ARISH, Egypt — A security official on Monday said Egyptian troops have arrested two armed Palestinians from the Hamas group who entered the country illegally from the Gaza Strip.
The official said the men crossed from Gaza into Egypt's Sinai Peninsula using smuggling tunnels.
He said they were arrested on Monday in a stolen car in the town of el-Arish, near the border, along with three Egyptian smugglers. The official said they had weapons, hand grenades, two RPGs and about 50,000 Egyptian pounds ($8,600) in cash.
The official said an investigation was under way. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media.
Egypt on Sunday closed its border with Gaza amid the turmoil gripping the country.
