Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul-Gheit on Thursday confirmed an assassination attempt on Omar Suleiman, who briefly served as Egyptian vice president during the last days of deposed president Hosni Mubarak.

Aboul-Gheit said in an interview with Egyptian television Wednesday night that the the assassination attempt happened a few weeks ago when Suleiman's car was fired at by an approaching ambulance. One of Suleiman's bodyguards was killed in the gunfire, and his driver sustained heavy injuries.
