Vice-President of the French Senate, Monique Papon, announced on Thursday that she supports the efforts to secure captive soldier Gilad Schalit's release.

"We identify with the efforts to free Gilad Schalit, the young French-Israeli who in a few days will mark five years in captivity. Our thoughts are with his family," Papon told a Knesset delegation in France.

MK Daniel Ben-Simon said that this is the first time that Schalit was discussed on the French Senate's stage.

MKs Carmel Shama-Hacohen (Likud), Anastasia Michaeli (Israel Beiteinu) and Ronit Tirosh (Kadima) also visited the Senate with Ben-Simon.
