Gal-On: Metzger should be removed from judicial functions

Meretz Chief Zehava Gal-On on Thursday, called on Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein and Religious Affairs Minister Naftali Bennett to remove the Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yonah Metzger from his position on the committee to elect judges to the Rabbinical Court. Gal-On also called on the officials to remove Metzger from his position as a judge of the Rabbinical Court.

Gal-On's demands come amid police investigations of Metzger on corruption charges that were first reported in the media on Thursday.

"It is inconceivable that a man being investigated criminally should continue to serve in an important judicial capacity," Gal-On said.
