Gantz dismisses commander after soldier dies

IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz dismissed the commander of the Thunder battalion from office on Thursday after a training accident killed a soldier in his platoon in June.
Gantz accepted the recommendations of Commander Yair Golan and dismissed the commander from office. The officer cited failures in the chain of command following the accident in which IDF soldier, St.-Sgt. Omri Shoshan was killed.
St.-Sgt. Omri Shoshan was shot in the back during a training exercise at Mt. Keren – the Givati Brigade’s training base – in the South. Shoshan, a squad commander, was leading his troops during a live-fire drill when was accidentally shot and died of his wounds.
