Sources in Jerusalem said on Monday morning that the prospect of imminent negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians was "scant" at best, Army Radio reported. "The gaps were evident during the round of talks in Washington - the Palestinians would not recognize Israel as the Jewish state," the sources were quoted as saying. The sources assessed that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas would not be able to conduct talks with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu before the upcoming Fatah-Hamas elections.
