Economic hardship drove one Herzliya couple to go into the sex trade, with the wife servicing clients in the couple’s house in the Tel Aviv suburb over the past three years to make ends meet.

Tel Aviv police said Thursday that the couple was not running a large-scale brothel or escort service, rather, that the woman herself would provide services to clients who came to their house.

The woman and her husband, aged 31 and 39, are both from Israel, and reportedly ran the business for the past three years.

On Thursday the wife was released from custody, while the husband was brought to the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court for a remand extension.

The wife told police that the business was not a brothel, rather a means of paying the bills for the family after they hit hard times three years ago.
