An IDF soldier was set upon by two unidentified assailants who struck
him with blunt object and made off with his firearm on Thursday night
near Kiryat Shmona.

The soldier was evacuated to the Ziv Medical Center in Safed in light
condition.

Police said the attackers fled the scene in a vehicle. A large police
search, involving roadblocks, patrol units, and a police helicopter
was launched soon after the attack.

On Wednesday, officers from the Galilee district branch of the special
Yamar investigative unit arrested eight people, including two
soldiers, suspected of stealing firearms from an IDF base near
Israel’s northern border. The firearms include a MAG machine gun.
