The Interior Ministry's District Building and Planning Committee approved on Tuesday the first step of a project that would lengthen the light rail in Jerusalem to Kiryat Yovel and Givat Shaul.

The project still has a number of hurdles to overcome before it is approved and construction will likely take years.
