Ireland shelves plan to recall passports after Mabhouh hit

Ireland's Department of Foreign Affairs decided not to recall passports issued prior to 2005 following the alleged use of forgeries in the assassination of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai in January, the Irish Times reported on Friday.

The department's Passport Service had considered the recall of the passports after concluding that eight passports of an older model issued before sophisticated security features were introduced in 2005 were forged by the Mossad in the assassination of the Hamas member.

The recall was shelved because of its high cost and the major administrative problems it would cause.
