The Irish government announced on Tuesday that it has decided to recognize the Palestinian Authority's delegation and upgrade the delegation to embassy status.

Following the decision, the head of the Palestinian delegation will become an ambassador to Ireland and will submit his credentials to the President of Ireland.

Ireland is the first country in the European Union to upgrade the delegation.

Army radio reported on Tuesday that officials in the Foreign Ministry noted that the move was not surprising, but expressed concern that other European nations will follow suit.
