Irish Nobel laureate challenges Israeli detention

Nobel peace laureate Mairead Corrigan Maguire has asked Israel's Supreme Court to allow her to enter the country, five days after she was placed in an airport detention center upon arriving with a human rights delegation.
Maguire's legal challenge on Sunday set the stage for a new showdown with Israel. The Northern Irish activist has emerged as an outspoken critic of Israel in recent years.
Maguire was detained last Tuesday when she landed at Israel's international airport on a mission to meet with Israeli and Palestinian peace activists.
Israel says Maguire is barred because she has tried in the past to sail through its naval blockade of the Gaza Strip. Maguire's lawyers claim an Israeli deportation order against her is invalid.
The court is to hear the case on Monday.
