Israeli teachers, students call off strike

The Association of Secondary School Teachers announced Wednesday night that it had reached an agreement with the Education Ministry and would resume all class field trips beginning Thursday morning.
The teachers had canceled all excursions off school premises in an effort to pressure the ministry to meet their demand that they not be liable for any criminal charges regarding the students’ safety and well-being on school trips.
In turn, the National Student and Youth Council canceled its planned three-day strike and announced students would also return to classes Thursday.
The council held an emergency meeting Wednesday night to discuss the issue following the teachers’ announcement.
“We returned the field trips to the students – we succeeded in our goal,” the student council wrote on its Facebook page.
