Former president Jimmy Carter said on Sunday that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak will have to resign, due to the current protests in Egypt, Politico reported.

"My guess is Mubarak will have to leave," Carter told his church in Plains, Georgia. "This is the most profound situation in the Middle Least since I left office."

He added: "The US wants Mubarak to stay in power, but the people have decided" they want Mubarak to resign.
