Disgraced former president Moshe Katsav said that anyone who knew him knew that he was innocent and undeserving of a seven-year sentence on rape and obstruction of justice charges.

"Today ends a bloody struggle with rage and frustration," Katsav told reporters before leaving his Kirtyat Malachi home en route to a light security prison to begin his sentence.

"Anybody who knows me will say the accusations are false. In Israel today, a man is executed," Katsav said.
