Palestinian Authority Foreign Minister Riad al-Malki called on the United States to change its position vis-a-vis the UN statehood recognition bid, and support the Palestinian effort.

Malki, who made the comments after a meeting with his Venezuelan counterpart in New York, expressed hope that the US would join "the majority of nations" that support the Palestinian right to self-determination and independence.

The Palestinian Authority foreign minister said that he was confident Palestinians could get the backing of nine nations in the Security Council, the majority needed for the resolution to pass.
