MK Nitzan Horowitz (Meretz) accused the Shas Party of trampling on the fundamentals of democracy on Monday in a Knesset Internal Affairs Committee debate, according to a statement released by Horowitz.

The debate was held at Interior Minister Eli Yishai's (Shas) request, in order to extend council head Nissim Dahan's position by two years. Chairman of the committee Amnon Cohen (Shas) denied residents' representatives' right to speech at the meeting when it became clear that they opposed the measure.
