Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger called upon US President Barack Obama to commute Israeli agent Jonathan Pollard's sentence to time served Thursday night at a post-Simchat Torah celebration in Jerusalem. Pollard will enter the 27th year of his life sentence a month from Friday.

"One of our sons has come back from captivity but we will not rest until all of our captive and missing sons return," Metzger said. Addressing Obama, Metzger added: "You saw the emotions and the joy [for Gilad Schalit]. Please free our son Jonathan Pollard."
