Ministry to subsidize 50,000 more subsidized fridges

Due to the great demand for high-efficiency refrigerator trade-ins, the Energy and Water Ministry decided to subsidize 50,000 additional refrigerators for the general public. The ministry has issued a tender to find a supplier for this next round of fridges, and by the end of the year, the public will have purchased about 140,000 subsidized refrigerators, the ministry said on Monday.
“The Israeli market is learning to adjust itself to the needs of the energy market,” Energy and Water Minister Uzi Landau said in a statement released by his office.
The ministry will subsidize up to 30 percent – and more than NIS 1,250 – of the costs of the refrigerators. Each family with a new fridge is expected to save about NIS 500 per year on electricity costs, according to the ministry.
