US Special Middle East envoy George Mitchell on Wednesday evening after his meeting with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Jerusalem told reporters that negotiations were quickly heating up.

"They [Abbas and Netanyahu] are tackling up front the issues at the center of the Israeli -Palestinian conflict," Mitchell said. He added, "We take this as a strong indicator of their belief is possible."

He added that the talks between Israeli and Palestinian negotiators would continue next week and that the US would seek to gather Jordan, Syria and Lebanon's support for ongoing peace negotiations.
