Commander of the Navy, Maj-Gen. Ram Rotenberg, played an April Fool's joke on naval personnel from 3 of the Navy's ships on Sunday, Israel Radio reported.

Rotenberg on Saturday ordered the 3 ships to prepare for an emergency departure to Napoli where they would participate in a joint military training exercise with the Italian and US navies.

Naval officers stayed up all night making emergency plans for the military exercise and ordered sailors to bring enough additional gear to their ships to last for a 10 day voyage.

The naval personnel learned that the whole exercise was an April Fool's joke on Sunday morning.
