President Obama is not planning a visit to Israel this year, JTA reported Thursday.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu extended an invitation to Obama when the two leaders met Tuesday at the White House.
Obama's spokesman, Robert Gibbs, said Wednesday that such a visit was not planned for 2010.
"It’s not on the books at this point," he said. "I don't know if it changes or not."
A number of Jewish groups, on the left and right, have urged Obama to visit Israel in order to overcome tensions with the Netanyahu government.
