Obama, Karzai agreed incident hurt anti-terrorism fight

WASHINGTON - US President Barack Obama expressed "deep regret" over an air strike that killed nine Afghan children in a video teleconference with Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai on Wednesday.

They agreed in the call that such incidents undermine shared efforts in fighting terrorism, the White House said on Thursday.

The two leaders spoke for about one hour in the call and discussed topics including the transition to Afghanistan taking the lead on security in the country and the beginning of US troop reductions in July.

"Both leaders agreed that the United States and Afghanistan should continue to work together to advance a political outcome to the war in Afghanistan and President Obama reaffirmed his support for an Afghan-led political process," the White House said in a statement.
