Obama calls Netanyahu to discuss Iran, Palestinian efforts to join ICC

WASHINGTON - US President Barack Obama briefed Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu by phone on Monday over "recent developments" in negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program, the White House said.

"The United States is focused on reaching a comprehensive deal with Iran that prevents it from acquiring a nuclear weapon," the White House said in a statement, "and verifiably assures the international community of the exclusively peaceful nature of its nuclear program."

Obama and Netanyahu also discussed the Palestinian Authority's efforts to join the International Criminal Court. "The Palestinian Authority does not yet constitute a state and is therefore not eligible to accede to the Rome Statute," Obama told Netanyahu.
